NDIS Starts Here — Personalised Disability Support
Everything you need to know about NDIS disability care — from applications and funding to finding the right support
What is NDIS Disability Care?
What is NDIS disability care?
The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) provides funding for eligible Australians with disabilities to access support services and equipment. Disability care includes personal care, community participation, skill development, therapy support, and home assistance. SDC Happy Health is an NDIS registered provider (No. 4050102983) offering bilingual support in Mandarin, Cantonese and English to Sydney's Chinese community.
What are the core principles of the NDIS?
The NDIS is based on "participant choice and control" — you decide your support needs, choose providers, and manage your funding (depending on your plan management). Core principles: choice and control (you have the final say), personalisation (support tailored to your goals), early intervention, and lifetime support for eligible participants.
Eligibility & Application
Who is eligible for the NDIS?
You must: (1) be under 65 years old; (2) be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa; (3) live in Australia; (4) need ongoing support due to a permanent or significant disability. To apply: call 1800 800 110 or visit ndis.gov.au to submit an Access Request Form. Our team can assist you in Chinese.
How long does NDIS approval take?
Typically 21 days to 3 months from application. After approval, you'll have a Planning Meeting to discuss your goals and budget. Your NDIS Plan (usually 12 months) will list your funding categories. Then you can contact providers like SDC Happy Health to start services.
Services
What services can NDIS funding be used for?
NDIS funding is in three categories: (1) Core — daily help (personal care, community participation, transport, home assistance); (2) Capacity Building — skill development, therapies (physio/OT/speech), employment support, social skills training; (3) Capital — assistive equipment (wheelchairs, hearing aids), home modifications (ramps, bathroom mods). We help you allocate funding based on your plan and goals.
What can NDIS funding NOT be used for?
NDIS cannot cover: everyday living costs (rent, utilities, food), non-disability-related medical costs (covered by Medicare/private health), holidays, general education, or supports covered by other programs. NDIS funding is for "reasonable and necessary" supports related to your disability.
Plan Management & Choosing a Provider
What are the NDIS plan management options?
Three options: (1) Agency-managed — NDIA pays providers directly; (2) Plan-managed — a plan manager handles billing and claiming, allows using registered and unregistered providers; (3) Self-managed — you manage budget, pay bills, claim yourself. You can also mix options. SDC Happy Health accepts agency-managed and plan-managed.
How do I choose an NDIS provider?
Consider: (1) Chinese/bilingual support available; (2) understanding of Chinese cultural background; (3) service coverage area; (4) services that match your NDIS plan; (5) transparent fees; (6) reputation. Contact multiple providers to compare. SDC Happy Health offers a free initial consultation.
